The University of British Columbia (UBC) and InBC Investment Corp. have established the UBC Catalyst Ventures Fund, a first-of-its-kind partnership designed to accelerate the commercialization of breakthrough research and strengthen British Columbia's innovation economy. With an initial commitment of $20 million from UBC and InBC, and the goal of attracting up to an additional $20 million, the Fund will have up to $40 million in early-stage venture capital to help high-potential companies originating from UBC research launch, grow and remain in British Columbia. Initial investments will focus on life sciences and deep technology, sectors that are central to the Province's long-term economic strategy. The fund will be a standalone investment vehicle with both InBC and UBC as anchor investors.
