Correctional Sergeant III (S) Agency: Adult Correction Division
Position Number:
Grade: NC09
Location: Pasquotank Correctional Institution, Elizabeth City, NC
Responsibilities First-line supervision of Correctional Officer III’s in close‑custody institutions with restrictive and controlled housing.
Assign lower‑level custody staff to specific areas or posts.
Oversee officer activities and performance, ensuring custody, security and welfare of inmates are maintained.
Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures, and enforce rules and regulations.
Supervise more staff than lower‑level Correctional Sergeant I or II.
Report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III or Housing Unit Manager.
Ensure staff is fully trained and follows proper conduct and procedures.
Maintain facility security through regular inspections and compliance with regulations.
Give direction during drills, searches, and emergencies.
