Position Summary
:An introduction to the tools and vocabulary needed to engage critically with music from a broad range of styles and repertoire. Topics include rhythmic and metric organization, melodic structure, ornamentation, texture, tuning systems, selected harmonic schemata, and basic syntax found in repertoire from Western, non-Western, popular, and film musics. Cross-listed with MUMI122.
Qualifications – Required: PhD in Music Theory or PhD in Music (other than Music Theory) with a publication record in Music Theory scholarship in either Classical or Rock genres. Experience teaching music theory at the university level, either as an instructor or as a Teaching Assistant whose duties include a significant component of in-class teaching. Commitment to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the consideration of course materials. Currency in music theory scholarship in approaches to both Classical and Rock genres.
