About the Role

The Whakatane Emergency Department (ED) medical specialist team has grown rapidly over the past few years in response to the growth in population and service demand. We are committed to delivering excellent regional emergency medicine care for the people of the Bay of Plenty.

Our ED sees a diverse case mix with over 55,000 presentations per annum of which 20% is paediatric. The population of the Western Bay of Plenty is continuing to grow rapidly with high numbers of older adults retiring to the Bay alongside growth in industry and commerce attracting younger people and families to relocate to the region. The Bay of Plenty has a Māori population of around 22% with the largest number of Māori living in the Western Bay of Plenty.
