Summary of Duties
Under the direction of the Food Services Supervisor or General Services Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for the overall preparation of all foods, provides support and guidance to other dietary team members, and monitors meal service in the dining room. The Cook ensures meals are attractive and nutritious, are prepared according to Extendicare’s policies and procedures and menu work routines, while maintaining a safe and sanitary environment. The Cook also operates the Dietary Department and supervises Dietary Aide staff in the absence of the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak English and to understand verbal and written instructions in English.
- Post‑secondary education in institutional food preparation preferred.
- Experience in long‑term care or senior housing preferred; a combination of experience and education will also be considered.
